Initial steps are to file a formal freedom of information request. Inquire with your local law enforcement about the best way to make an application for Freedom of Information Request.
Focus on the location of any services causing an increase in crime, and then use your local knowledge to define a perimeter of streets that define an area where you know where there has been impact. Then ask for annual crime data (general occurrences) and police calls, detailing all crimes and occurrences, within that area – so annual numbers for each kind of crime or call, and total crimes and calls for that area too. Ask for data for the four years before the service was established, and then the years following to the present day. That will give you a base, a general figure and show what crimes have been rising.
The relevance of a current and comparable community impact assessment is data you can rely on for showing real community impact when you are experiencing drug-induced crime and disorder.
Show your crime data to council and social services. For injection sites, specifically, find out how to present associated crime data to the federal minister(s) who decide whether to approve an extension of sanctioned sites, pursuant to this legislation:
